I love Yum Cha and so does my friend A from work. Whenever we're on shift together, all we seem to talk about is fooood.
Our mouths started to water as we discussed all our favourite dishes, prawn dumplings, prawn and sesame rolls, fried wontons, the little footy balls with the mince inside, mango pancakes - the list goes on!
So on Thursday night after our late shift, we decided to head into Chinatown.
A has been telling me about East Ocean restaurant that serves Yum Cha until 2am in the morning and it was a massive fail.
We were met by very rude staff, which put me off straight away and they no longer serve Yum Cha till 2am! I'm lead to believe that A's last trip there was after a few drinkies, she may have remembered it differently.
Too embarrassed to do the walk of shame, we decided to share half a duck and a few dim sum dishes.
The good was, well, ok and I have no plans to return. I think it is way overpriced.
I guess I'm just spoilt with our local Yum Cha - Imperial Peking which is always fresh, well priced and has great service.
Stay tuned our next food adventure as we head to Din Tai Fung. D and I have been to the one in Hong Kong, so I'm excited to see how Sydney compares.

Hubby rates East Ocean highest only cause they serve Crab during Yum Cha LOL whereas my fave Yum Cha place would have to be Rhodes Phoenix.
ReplyDeleteThey're crazy packed on the weekends and food is always good :D
We tried Din Tai Fung last fortnight at The Star and portion size could be larger hehe. Taste of Shanghai is really nice!
Oh that's so sad! :( Thanks to Cynthia above for the recs - I've only ever had yum cha ONCE (so shameful I know) so I need to get out there!
ReplyDeleteI've also had Yum Cha once! I'm sorry that your experience here was not fantastic, but I have to say that your photos have made me feel like having my 2nd Yum Cha experience VERY soon ;)
ReplyDeleteEast Ocean is great quality wise, but yes a little more expensive. But I think all the places in the city are very overpriced!
ReplyDeleteIf you go to the same Imperial Peking I go to, I agree, it's wonderful because it's less hectic/stressful and I go there so often I get amazing service too! Great minds think alike ;)
